COMING SOON | Gabriella Voogt Pocket Exhibition | 13 - 29 August
Based in Christchurch, Gabriella Voogt is an intuitive abstract painter whose work explores colour, texture, and the layered nature of painting itself. Passionate about art from an early age, she spent much of her childhood immersed in art books, fostering a lifelong fascination with painting and visual culture. She later studied Visual Communication Design at university, further developing her understanding of composition, colour, and visual storytelling.

Working primarily with florals and still life, Gabriella’s practice is driven less by subject matter and more by the emotional and visual relationships created through colour and paint. Her paintings evolve intuitively, without predetermined plans or references, allowing each work to emerge organically through the act of making. Central to her process is a love of layering, the depth created by underpainting, visible brushstrokes, and glimpses of colour beneath the surface. For Gabriella, a painting’s history is just as important as its final image.
Inspired by a deep appreciation for gardens, nature, and the fleeting beauty of seasonal blooms, Gabriella is drawn to flowers as both subjects and symbols. She is fascinated by their extraordinary forms, colours, and structures, and by the tradition of bringing elements of the garden indoors. Through richly layered compositions, her work seeks to capture not only the beauty of flowers but also the emotional resonance of colour, atmosphere, and memory.
