BIO

Naomi Faifai is a contemporary New Zealand mixed media artist based in Timaru. A self-taught creative, Naomi has been driven by a lifelong passion for making art, exploring a wide range of materials and techniques from an early age. Her resourceful and experimental approach continues to shape her distinctive artistic practice.

Working primarily with inks and mixed media, Naomi is drawn to the fluidity, movement and unpredictability of her chosen materials. Her intuitive process embraces spontaneity, allowing colours, textures and forms to develop organically. Each original artwork is a unique expression of experimentation, storytelling and creative freedom.

Naomi's work is deeply inspired by her Samoan and Māori heritage. Traditional Siapo (tapa cloth) patterns, cultural symbolism and memories of everyday life are woven throughout her compositions, creating contemporary artworks that celebrate identity, connection and place. Her paintings balance meaningful cultural narratives with a playful energy, encouraging viewers to find beauty in imperfection and joy in the unexpected.

Through her vibrant mixed media artworks, Naomi creates contemporary New Zealand art that is both expressive and deeply personal. Her work invites collectors to connect with stories of culture, creativity and belonging while celebrating the richness of Māori and Pasifika influences.
