About Naomi Faifai

Naomi Faifai is a contemporary mixed-media artist based in Timaru. A self-taught artist, she has followed a lifelong passion for making art, exploring a wide range of materials and techniques. Her resourceful, experimental approach continues to shape her distinctive practice.

Working primarily with inks and mixed media, Naomi is drawn to the fluidity, movement and unpredictability of her materials. Her intuitive process embraces spontaneity, letting colours, textures and forms develop organically. The resulting works bring together experimentation, storytelling and creative freedom.

Naomi’s art is deeply influenced by her Samoan and Māori heritage. Siapo (tapa-cloth) patterns, cultural symbolism and memories of everyday life weave through her compositions, celebrating identity, connection and place. Meaningful cultural narratives meet a playful energy, inviting viewers to find beauty in imperfection and joy in the unexpected.
