John McDermott, an Auckland-based photographer, has been working in New Zealand since 1990, following four years of travel and work across Asia and Europe. Since 1993, he has focused extensively on photographing the performing arts in New Zealand.
He is the author of several books, including the well-known Heartland and Barefoot Kings, as well as his most recent publication, Process, which documents the work of The New Zealand Dance Company. McDermott also photographed Truth by Illusion, a book exploring the creative process behind performing arts productions in New Zealand.
He lives locally in Westmere, and this particular collection of images captures the Auckland coastline, stretching from Pt Chevalier to the Harbour Bridge.
