BIO
Richard Boyd Dunlop is one of New Zealand's most distinctive and celebrated artists. Self-taught and based in Hawke's Bay, he has been exhibiting for over 25 years, building a body of work that is immediately recognisable for its bold colour, expressive mark-making and unapologetic presence.
His paintings and prints move fluidly between figurative subjects and landscape, drawing inspiration from popular culture, current events and iconic figures. Through repetition, layering and saturated colour, Richard creates works that evoke alternate realities and hold commanding presence in any space.
In recent years, Richard has expanded into new media, including holographic vinyl and digital formats, introducing an interactive quality to his practice. These works shift in colour and composition depending on the viewer's position, adding a dynamic, sensory dimension to his already vibrant visual language.
His prints and paintings are held in private collections across New Zealand and internationally, and continue to attract both new and established collectors.
