BIO
German-born Karin Barr moved to rural Waikato in 1994 and discovered her passion for stone carving at the 2003 Matamata Sculpture Symposium. She later expanded into glass casting, studying at Art Station in Auckland and attending international master classes to refine her skills. Barr’s work is held in the Wallace Arts Trust and private collections globally, with regular exhibitions in New Zealand, Australia, and Germany. Her studio is located on a farm in Tauhei.
Barr's glass sculptures emphasize contrast, light, and color, often featuring simple forms and bold lines influenced by the Bauhaus Movement. Her installations frequently respond to specific sites and environmental themes.
