BIO

Hollie O’Neill is a contemporary New Zealand artist based in Auckland, renowned for her luminous abstract artworks that explore the relationship between light, colour, materiality and perception. Inspired by the quiet beauty of the natural world and the way light transforms our experience of it, her work captures moments of stillness, atmosphere, and emotional resonance.

Working across aluminium, mirrored surfaces and canvas, Hollie layers vibrant pigments with epoxy polymer to create artworks of remarkable depth and radiance. Through this distinctive process, colour appears to shift, glow and evolve with changing light, inviting viewers into an immersive visual experience.

A full-time artist since 2002, Hollie has developed a highly recognisable contemporary art practice that bridges abstraction and minimalism. Her work has been recognised through numerous awards and finalist selections, including the Parkin Drawing Prize, the New Zealand Painting and Printmaking Award, and the Art in the Park Best in Colour Award. Her artworks are held in significant private and public collections, including The Arts House Trust Collection.

With a background in fine art and design, Hollie has also worked extensively in arts education and programme development. Today, she paints full-time from her Auckland studio, creating original contemporary artworks sought after by collectors throughout New Zealand and beyond.
