FAQs
How does your gallery differ from other galleries, what is your point of difference?
Frame Workshop &Gallery combines a curated contemporary art gallery representing emerging and mid-career New Zealand artists with a professional custom framing service, across two Auckland locations in Herne Bay and Onehunga. You can discover and buy original New Zealand art, then have it framed to museum archival standard, all in one place and by people who care deeply about both. Browse our artists here. Or find out more about our framing services here.
Can I see artwork in person or find out more about a specific artist or work?
Yes, and we'd love that. Our Herne Bay gallery at 182 Jervois Road is open Monday to Saturday, come in, take your time and experience the work in the space. There's no substitute for seeing art in person, and our team genuinely loves talking about the work and the people behind it. You're also welcome to contact us by email if you have questions before visiting jervois@frameworkshop.co.nz.
Can I reserve an artwork while I decide?
Yes, we can place a hold on works for up to 24 hours. Some works, particularly during exhibitions, move quickly, so it's best to get in touch as soon as possible. We're always happy to have a conversation.
Can I trial an artwork in my home before making a decision?
Yes. For Auckland-based customers, we offer a home trial service on selected works. You can take a piece home to see how it feels in your space before you commit. Get in touch and we'll arrange it.
Why doesn't your website show shipping costs?
Because every artwork is different. Works vary significantly in size, weight and fragility, so we calculate shipping individually to ensure each piece is handled correctly. Once you've purchased, or if you'd like a quote beforehand, just contact us and we'll arrange it for you quickly.
What if I would like to ship something internationally?
No problem. We happily ship artwork overseas. Shipping is calculated per piece so contact us before or after purchase and we'll provide a quote and arrange it for you.
I need something framed, can you help?
Yes. Framing is a core part of what we do at Frame Workshop and Gallery. We have dedicated framing consultation spaces at both our locations. Come in and our team will work with you to find the best framing solution for your piece.
I have something unusual, can you frame it?
We can frame a wide range of items beyond standard paintings and prints, including: textiles, taonga, heirlooms, korowai, children's artwork, sports jerseys, maps, medals, keepsakes and certificates. If it's meaningful to you, there's usually a way to frame it beautifully. Browse examples of our framing work here.
I see you are a conservation framer, what does that actually mean?
Archival framing uses acid-free materials and UV-filtering glass to protect artwork from deterioration over time. Standard framing materials can contain acids that cause discolouration and damage within just a few years. Archival framing is the museum-standard approach and it's what we use for all framing at Frame Workshop and Gallery. If you've invested in a piece of art, it's worth protecting it properly so it lasts for years to come.
Can UV glass protect my artwork from fading?
Yes, significantly. Sunlight and artificial light both emit UV radiation that causes artwork to fade and discolour over time, often without you noticing until the damage is done. UV-filtering glass blocks the majority of this radiation, keeping colours true for much longer. We proudly offer several archival glass options as well as standard glass. We'll talk you through the options during your consultation.
What do I need to hang an artwork at home?
Not much, we take care of the hard part. Every artwork we frame is provided ready to hang, and we supply picture hooks so you have everything you need when you walk out the door. If you're unsure about placement or hanging, just ask, we’re always happy to help.
Do you provide art consultation for businesses and commercial spaces?
Yes. We work with businesses across Auckland, including offices, hotels, cafés and other commercial environments. We can help you select and source the right artworks for your space. Get in touch to find out more about our commercial art consultation services.
I love a piece but can't pay for it all at once, do you offer payment plans?
Yes. We offer payment plans for art purchases. Contact us in-store or get in touch and we'll be happy to discuss the options available to you.
Looking for a gift that’s unique?
A Frame Workshop and Gallery gift voucher lets them choose exactly what they love, whether that's an original artwork or professional framing for something they already treasure. Vouchers are available in any amount, either purchase in-store or contact us on 09 376 4749 or jervois@frameworkshop.co.nz.
Can I collect my purchase directly from the gallery?
