BIO

Based in West Auckland, Laurette is a self-taught artist working primarily in acrylics. Her work is an intuitive and expressive exploration of contemporary female figures, portrayed in a naive style that embraces bold colour, softness, and quiet strength.

Her current practice is deeply influenced by the rhythms of motherhood, as she navigates the demands and intimacy of raising young children. These tensions echo a quiet search for solitude, identity, and connection amidst the noise of daily life. Inspired by natural surroundings and everyday objects, her portraits, like whispered daydreams, hold space for stillness and introspection, favouring atmosphere over narrative. With a sense of place and a hint of nostalgia, she invites viewers to connect with her work in their own way, without the need for explanation.
