Emerging Women in Art

This event is part of a new initiative by The Frame Gallery aimed at fostering deeper connections between artists, collectors and the wider community.

In this talk, we turn our focus to women in art; their processes, perspectives, and place in the creative landscape. Through conversation, we explore how these women shape, challenge and expand the boundaries of contemporary practice.

Featuring Helena Skerlj-Rovers, Sharon Duymel, Judi Bagust and Kate Cox, four artists at different stages of their careers. The talk offers a rich dialogue on materiality, identity, and artistic evolution.

HELENA SKERLJ-ROVERS
TEXTILE ARTIST | AUCKLAND
Helena Skerlj-Rovers is a multi-disciplinary artist based in Tāmaki Makaurau, Auckland. Her vibrant practice, rooted in painting, now includes textiles and tufted rugs. Blending colour, gesture, and a lifelong love of craft.

SHARON DUYMEL
PAINTER | PAUANUI
Sharon Duymel (Utrecht, The Netherlands) is a Pauanui-based artist whose feminist practice explores identity, female agency, and internal experience through the body as a site of psychological expression. She completed her MFA at Whitecliffe in 2022.

JUDI BAGUST
PAINTER | AUCKLAND
Judi Bagust is a contemporary painter whose fluid ink works explore rhythm, movement, and place. Drawing on heritage, environment, and poetry. A Whitecliffe MFA graduate, her work has been widely exhibited and commissioned.

KATE COX
PAINTER | KERIKERI
Kate Cox is an abstract painter based in Kerikeri, creating large-scale works in acrylic, oil, and pastel. With a background in design and commercial interiors, her practice explores abstract landscapes and has been recognised in a number of awards.

Our moderator, is the ever-thoughtful Amanda Billing - photographer, actress, painter and passionate advocate for creativity. Amanda will also share her artistic process, feminine perspective, and how we define success in a creative life.
