Describing her artistic process as one that "drifts me into thought-intuitive consciousness", Kate taps into an awareness that allows her to "interpret these thoughts with abstraction while striving on the surface for an outcome of an undetectable balance." Simultaneously Present unifies the threads of past, present, and future, presenting them in a seamless, abstract form that invites the viewer to reflect on their own experiences.

For Kate, each piece in this collection is a reflection of her curiosity and creativity, as she navigates "how the universality of these moments unify us while weaving from the past to the present and predicting the next."

About the Artist

Born in New Zealand, Kate grew up in the seaside suburbs of Auckland and now resides in the beautiful Bay of Islands. Her 100-year-old country villa in Kerikeri serves as both a sanctuary for her family and a creative space where she dedicates herself to her art.

Kate's background in commercial interiors, combined with her Bachelor of Design, has given her a unique perspective on the interplay between space, form, and color. Her passion for art led her to pursue fine art courses and mentoring, ultimately paving the way for her to become a full-time professional artist.

Recognized for her large abstract paintings and abstract landscapes, Kate's work primarily features acrylics, oil, and pastels on canvas. She explains that her process involves combining "loose linear markings and washes with delicate and bold painterly marks," using tools like brushes, scrapers, rags, and even her hands. For Kate, "mark-making is complete when the canvas is struck with fast intent and takes on a life of its own."

This mastery of form and texture has earned her recognition as a finalist in prestigious awards such as the Walker and Hall Waiheke Art Award and the Estuary Art and Ecology Award.
