“Untethered…you brave and glorious thing”.

At its heart, this new work responds to the strong, glorious and resilient flower, it’s beauty, strength, fragility and eventual fading, a reflection to the human conditions we all experience. Ephemeral nature is abundant all around us, offering up so much calm in the chaos of our modern lives. These paintings are an ode to those human experiences and this is an honest interpretation and response.

Exploring tension and freedom with loose and gestural brush strokes and mark making, my work merges representation and abstraction. Using acrylic, oil stick and spray paint, white impasto paint defines floral form, between the negative spaces of greys, blues, blush and ochre washes. Ghost like vessels set against black back-drops feature, the blooms purposefully unrestrained, careful not to tether the loose, often billowing composition. Works are on stretched canvas and loose canvas drops lightly pinned. It felt important to leave  these wilful, gently resilient blooms uncaged… free, untethered in their journey of growth, bloom, decline and decay… this work offering an admission to a life lived well.
