Originally from California, Thomas Barter is a New Zealand glass artist whose diverse artistic career spans ceramics, public art and cast glass. After studying ceramics, Thomas spent more than two decades creating handmade tiles and large-scale public artworks throughout California before relocating to New Zealand in 2004.

Now based in Auckland, Thomas draws on his extensive experience in mould-making and ceramic processes to create distinctive cast glass sculptures. His practice explores the delicate relationship between paper and glass, transforming origami-inspired forms into luminous, enduring artworks. Capturing the lightness and movement of folded paper, Thomas’ glass sculptures reveal the beauty of craftsmanship, material and light.

New Zealand Deliveries

  • In‑stock unframed artworks and small objects are typically dispatched within 2–5 working days.
  • Orders are shipped Monday–Friday via trusted courier services.
  • All parcels include tracking and signature on delivery.
  • If an item is temporarily out of stock, we'll notify you with an updated timeframe.

Framed and Large Artworks

  • Framed or large works require specialised packing.
  • Please allow an additional 2–3 weeks for custom framing before dispatch.
  • We'll confirm an expected delivery window with you once your order is finalised.

International Shipping

  • We'll provide a personalised shipping quote for international orders.
  • Any duties or taxes charged by the destination country are the responsibility of the customer.

Shipping Costs

  • Because sizes and materials vary, shipping is calculated on the final wrapped size and weight of the piece.

Returns Policy

We anticipate you will be very happy with your purchase from Frame Workshop & Gallery.

If, however, you do experience an issue, you must discuss it with us first and any exchange or credit for an item that has been purchased is at our sole discretion.

Please do not send goods back to us before you have discussed the issue with us. If we agree that goods can be sent back to us the shipping cost for the return of the goods will be the customers responsibility unless the goods are faulty and we have agreed to cover the return shipping costs.

If we allow an exchange or credit the item must be returned within 14 days of purchase. It must be in its original packaging and in the same condition that it was in when you received it. You must also provide the original receipt or other proof of purchase.

We are unable to accept returned goods that have been damaged by the customer. If artwork has been commissioned on behalf of the customer it cannot be returned. Also, there are no refunds or exchanges on gift vouchers, sale items or layby items.

If goods are faulty or unfit for purpose then they may be returned to the gallery. We reserve the right to repair or replace the goods that have been returned in this situation. If the item is unable to be repaired or replaced we will offer an instore credit or gift voucher valid for 12 months. We do not provide cash refunds.

If the product has been damaged in transit you must notify us on receipt. We request that you check the goods when you sign for them and let us know immediately if there is an issue. We will then work with the courier company for a resolution. We will cover any additional shipping fees for a replacement.
