OF FLESH AND FRACTURE

Sharon Duymel is a New Zealand painter whose work explores the struggle of being unheard, translating the complexities of the interior mind through the female form. Her practice reflects on identity and agency from a feminist perspective, using the body as a psychological landscape to express lived experience. Through her art, she carves out space to speak on female agency and the challenges women face today.

OF FLESH AND FRACTURE is Sharon's first solo showcase with Frame Workshop & Gallery, bringing together a new body of large-scale oil paintings that mark a significant moment in her practice.

OF FLESH AND FRACTURE examines the psychological distance that can emerge within intimacy, how proximity does not always equal connection. Drawing on the language of clinical psychology and classical figuration, the series explores attachment, rupture, and the body as both vessel and battlefield for emotional experience. Rendered with the gravity of Renaissance composition yet grounded in contemporary emotional realism, OF FLESH AND FRACTURE reflects on how our internal states manifest through the body, how even in closeness, we remain, at times, profoundly alone.
